Reviewed: & Aleighcia Scott's Windrush Baby https://louditup.com/reviewed-aleighcia-scotts-windrush-baby https://louditup.com/reviewed-aleighcia-scotts-windrush-baby Ava Irving, Staff Writer -

If there's one thing we can all agree on, it's that Aleighcia Scott is a futue musical force to be reckoned with. The Welsh singer/songwriter, with her Jamaican roots running deep, has masterfully crafted an album that effortlessly bridges two worlds, leaving us musically smitten.

"Windrush Baby" is not just an album; it's an eloquent homage to the roots of reggae, skillfully blended with the echoes of the aptly titled album.

The album kicks off with "First Love" a treasure reprise of Scott's signature dynamics, delivered with a subtlety that warms the heart.

From the very beginning, you can tell you're in for something special.

The sax-led track "Good Vibes" takes us on an elevated journey of sound, reminiscent of the purest form of rub-a-dub. It's a sonic delight that immerses you in the essence of reggae's soul.

One of the remarkable qualities of "Windrush Baby" is the subtle hints of familiarity woven into its fabric. It's like catching up with an old friend while embarking on a musical adventure, making it easy to settle in for the next track.

The orchestral-driven "Do You" is where the album soars above the usual altitude of lovesrock, roots-inspired reggae albums. Rory, the mastermind behind the album's production, has poured his heart and soul into this project, and it just might be his magnum opus, if we dare to say so.

"Hey World" transports us back to the iconic sounds of the '80s with dynamic prominence. This single pays homage to the era when Carlene Davis ruled as the undeniable queen of homegrown music. One can't help but yearn for a 12-inch disco version of this track - hint hint.

"In My Shoes" has already made its mark as a single, priming fans for the full album. It's another future classic drawn from the golden era of UK Reggae's primordial ooze. Aleighcia Scott leaves listeners wanting for nothing, and for those seeking a fresh burst of our beloved reggae sound, she delivers impressively.

The pace slows down seamlessly with "Pretty Little Brown Thing," a track that emerged as one of radio's favorite singles of the summer. It's a testament to Scott's versatility and ability to captivate audiences across different tempos.

"Maybe" invites fans into a time machine, echoing the authentic sounds of yesteryear in modern times. Its flute-flavored melody, adorned with quaint horn accents, is a journey through romance that feels both nostalgic and refreshing.

Flowing seamlessly into a reprise of "Mr. Big Shot," Aleighcia Scott's vocal prowess becomes undeniable. With Rory at the helm, they've undoubtedly spearheaded one of the finest female reggae albums of the current decade.

"This Way" effortlessly slips into a syrupy soundscape that's sure to become an earworm for couples seeking that signature lover's rock single to express unspoken emotions.

"My Love" closes the album like a sleepy serenade after a musical massage by a production that's truly worth a rewind.

To be honest, the production team has gifted fans with a deluxe album on its first edition, making it a true gem to listen.

If "Windrush Baby" ends up on vinyl, it will be well worth the wait and the price.

Windrush Baby" is a testament to Aleighcia Scott's artistry and her ability to bridge the past and present of reggae music. It's an album that deserves a spot in your playlist, and it's out now on all platforms. So, go ahead and treat your ears to this reggae journey, you won't be disappointed.

For many homegrown artists, they daydream about red carpets, big-name cities, and major TV and Radio.

But for the German-born newcomer Lil Hanky Panky, her dream was to make it big in Jamaica first.

With that goal in focus, Lilie Gorchkov born in Hannover, Germany to Russian parents has always by chance or by trial immersed herself in music, first spawned by an early love for dancing.

But it was at her hometown Fine Arts College in her teen years, that the lanky dancer would discover Reggae and Dancehall music, a wormhole which led her to the underground Reggae band Peace Development Crew, which would become one of the many groups she would hit centerstage as her career progressed.

After college, Lile(as she is fondly called off stage) would endeavour on some soul searching and during one of her global hops in 2018, find herself in the little Island of Jamaica.

Already a bit familiar with the music, the cultural experience that followed would become a life-changing sojourn, and soon Lile would call Jamaica home.

She would first immerse herself as a dance teacher, quickly establishing a reputation that would lead to opportunities to work on music video projects with the likes of Sean Paul.

Fully assimilated by 2020 in the homegrown dancehall circuit as a dancer, Lille decided to spread her creative wings and began experimenting in the booth with Grammy-winning producer "Teetimus", who helped her carve the style, soundscape and brand for which she is now known.

By the time her moniker "Lil Hanky Panky" went viral in 2021, she had already made up her mind that Jamaica would become her future stomping ground, and though she has yet to make a major impact, her name is recognized in the streets and grottos of Jamaica's Dancehall circuit.

With singles in 2021 such as "Brand Me A Rebel", and the spunky "Sativa" earning her ample radio rotation and respectable spins in the dancehall, Lil Hanky Panky is carefully cutting a path to local success in 2022.

With summer now approaching Lil Hanky Panky has already geared a fistful of releases to warm up the appetite of fans and wet the palette of new ones as she continues to embrace the Jamaican culture and evolve through her musical experiences that are culminating in a new fusion sound that can only be described as her name suggests..

Listen Lannlord's "Dem A Pree" https://louditup.com/listen-lannlords-dem-a-pree https://louditup.com/listen-lannlords-dem-a-pree - Staff Reporter

The Caribbean music scene is a jungle of talent, and with every step along the path of its vast construct, you will find hidden gems along the way that are to be shared with the world.

Lannlord, the Jamaican born artist, has taken the time to carve out his own space in the Reggae fusion music ecosystem with his own unique blend of Reggae and Hip-hop that is slowly, but surely, carving out a niche for this rising talent in the digital music paradigm.

Haling stalwarts such as Beres Hammond, Sean Paul, Vybz Kartel and female Hip-hop official Nicki Minaj as musical magnets of inspiration, his journey has not been overnight.

With his humble beginning in the rural Jamaican community of Rockhall, nestled in the hills of St. Andrew, the budding talent would find himself center stage at school events, and this encouragement would create a lifelong affinity with Reggae and Dancehall music that he continues to embrace to this day.

Shortly after migrating to the US in the early '90s, he was exposed to Hiphop, and this influence would push the talents soundscape even further, and by the time he graduated from high school in New Jersey, the burgeoning talent had carved out a space for himself in his stateside hometown, with what he has branded as "ReggaeHiphop", a grain along the line of Reggae fusion with a grimy dancehall finish, that keep his release relatable for audiences at home and aboard.

After building his resilience over years of trials, Lannlord took the step in 2018 to emerge from the underground with his debut single "Like Dat", and in short order grabbed the attention of Reggae/Dancehall Fans outside of his comfort zone of The Tri-State and into new regions such as UK, Canada, Netherlands, and African States such as Ghana, Nigeria, and Tanzania.

Consistently maintaining his pace with a series of minor and major releases during the pandemic, Lannlord has been ready, waiting, and very prepared to cut new roads, in new spaces for his music in 2022.

Havana Meets Kingston On June 3rd https://louditup.com/Havana, Kingston, Reggae, Jamaican, Cuban, Caribbean https://louditup.com/Havana, Kingston, Reggae, Jamaican, Cuban, Caribbean An epic set of 15 tracks, Havana Meets Kingston Part 2 unites the deep roots grooves of reggae, dancehall and rocksteady with the scorching soul of Cuban son, timba and salsa.

While connected by common African roots and colonial histories, the music of Cuba and Jamaica have traveled largely in separate directions. Their influence on the music of the world has been immeasurable, but their influence on each other has been less evident – until now.

It took an Australian to bring these two musically rich cultures together. Melbourne producer and musician Jake Savona had already fallen in love with the music of Jamaica, having released a string of successful reggae and dub albums under his stage name Mista Savona since 2007. He first traveled to Cuba in 2014 and on his last day in Havana, he was struck with a vision: he could imagine the sounds of Cuban rumba mixed with Jamaican nyabinghi, the spiritual & folkloric styles unique to each island.

A year later, supported by a grant from the Australian Council, Savona returned to Cuba, joined by a quartet of Jamaican legends including Sly & Robbie (drummer Sly Dunbar and bassist Robbie Shakespeare), guitarist Winston “Bopee” Bowen (known for his work with Dennis Brown) and Studio One percussionist Bongo Herman. They spent the next ten days at the legendary EGREM studios recording with many of Cuba’s top musicians and vocalists. “It felt like a project that wanted to be born, and I was the one lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time,” recalls Savona.

More sessions followed, other guests were invited, and after years of painstaking effort, the first volume of Mista Savona Presents Havana Meets Kingston was released in 2017 to worldwide acclaim. By 2018 a live version of the project had performed three world tours, culminating in an incendiary show for the BBC Proms at The Royal Albert Hall in the summer of 2018.

Shortly thereafter Savona was back in the Caribbean to work on new recordings with a range of famous and rising stars in the Cuban and Jamaican music scenes. Much of this new record was also recorded at the famous EGREM Studio (Estudios Areito 101) in Havana, where the equipment and atmosphere has remained unchanged since the 1950s. This is the very same studio in which the famous Buena Vista Social Club album was recorded in 1996, and the Havana Meets Kingston albums share that unique sonic character and warm, woody room sound that EGREM is famous for. According to Savona “The Cubans told me an angel lives in the studio and that she blesses the music recorded there - and I believe it! Other studios we recorded at include Nelson’s Studio in Vedado, and Bob Marley’s Tuff Gong studio in Kingston, Jamaica.”

Havana Meets Kingston Part 2 includes guest appearances from Jamaican singers Clinton Fearon (The Gladiators), Randy Valentine, Prince Alla, Stevie Culture, The Jewels and Micah Shemaiah. Featured Cuban guests include Cimafunk, Barbarito Torres, Changuito, Brenda Navarrete, Solis, Beatriz Marquez, Dayán Carrera Fernández and many more. This second album simmers with energy that comes from the magic created by musicians discovering exciting new sounds and collaborators.
